Yury Stepanyants

Prof Yury Stepanyants is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Southern Queensland, affiliated with the School of Mathematics, Physics and Computing. His research focuses on nonlinear dynamics, fluid dynamics, and mathematical physics, particularly in the areas of soliton theory, wave propagation, and oceanographic phenomena. He holds a PhD from the Marine Hydrophysical Institute and is a member of the Centre for Astrophysics.

Stepanyants' work extensively explores solitary waves, internal waves in stratified fluids, and their interactions under various environmental conditions, including the effects of rotation, shear flows, and variable bathymetry. He has contributed to understanding wave dynamics in complex media such as ice-covered oceans and has developed models for phenomena like tsunami surge and hydraulic jumps. His research also delves into applications in wave energy systems and Fano resonance.

Recent studies include investigations into cylindrical Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equations, lump solitons, and the behavior of waves in two-layer ocean models with shear flows. His publications often address the mathematical modeling and numerical simulation of wave processes, with applications to geophysical fluid dynamics and nonlinear optics.
