Yury Gogotsi is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Drexel University, USA, and Director of the A.J. Drexel Nanomaterials Institute. He holds a MS (1984), PhD (1986) from Kyiv Polytechnic, and a DSc from the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1995). His research focuses on nanomaterials, particularly MXenes, for energy storage, ion separation, and water desalination. He has pioneered MXene discovery and their application in membranes, electrochemical systems, and solar-driven desalination.
His work includes developing carbide-derived carbons, polygonal nanotubes, and MXene-based technologies. Key contributions span materials synthesis, surface modification, and energy-efficient ion separation. Recent studies emphasize MXene's role in tunable ion confinement, photothermal effects, and membrane engineering for water treatment.
Scientific recognition includes Clarivate Analytics' Highly Cited Researcher status and Citations Laureate in Physics. His research bridges fundamental material science with applied technologies, addressing global challenges in energy and water sustainability.
