Yuri Vyacheslavovich Simachev

Yuri Vyacheslavovich Simachev is a Professor at the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE), where he serves as Director of Economic Policy and Director of the Center for Structural Policy Research within the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Department of Applied Economics. He has been working at HSE since 2006 with over 26 years of scientific and teaching experience. His academic journey began with a physics degree from Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1984, followed by a Candidate of Technical Sciences degree in 1993 and additional training in economics and finance.

Professor Simachev's research focuses on industrial policy, science and technology policy, development institutions, corporate behavior, small and medium enterprises, and public policy assessment. His recent work has increasingly centered on the impact of economic sanctions on Russian industry, global value chain restructuring, and industrial policy adaptation in the current geopolitical context. His expertise bridges theoretical economic analysis with practical policy implementation, making him a key figure in Russian economic policy discussions.

His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on how Russian companies are adapting to sanctions, with particular attention to export diversification, technological sovereignty, industrial robotization, and low-carbon economic development. The research shows a clear trend toward analyzing Russia's economic adaptation to new geopolitical realities while maintaining competitiveness in global markets.
