Kuzyk Mikhail Georgievich is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, Department of Applied Economics at the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE). He serves as Deputy Director and Leading Researcher at the Center for Structural Policy Research and is the Scientific Supervisor of the Economic Analysis educational program specialization. With 22 years of scientific and teaching experience, he has been working at HSE since 2012 and has established himself as a prominent researcher in economic policy and structural changes in the Russian economy.
He earned his Candidate of Economic Sciences degree (equivalent to PhD) in 2004 from the Institute of Systems Analysis of the Russian Academy of Sciences, specializing in 'Economics and Management of the National Economy.' Prior to this, in 1999, he graduated from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology with a Specialist degree in 'Applied Mathematics and Physics' from the Faculty of Management and Applied Mathematics, with the qualification 'Engineer-Mathematician.'
Mikhail Kuzyk's research focuses on economic policy, industrial policy, structural policy, and innovation policy, with particular attention to structural changes in the economy, government support for industries and firms, assessment of the effects of government support, and development institutions. His work often examines how Russian companies adapt to external shocks, including sanctions and pandemics, with a strong emphasis on digitalization, robotization, and energy transition in manufacturing sectors.
His recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on the impact of sanctions on Russian industry, the role of digital technologies in business adaptation, and the effectiveness of government support measures. There's a clear trend toward analyzing how Russian firms navigate global value chains under sanctions and how they adapt through digital transformation and innovation, with increasing attention to energy transition and technological sovereignty.

As a scientific supervisor and educator, Kuzyk teaches courses on the Russian economy at both bachelor's and master's levels, focusing on how economic analysis applies to both state and business contexts. He has been involved in numerous research projects examining industrial policy, structural changes in the Russian economy, and the adaptation of Russian companies to external shocks. His work with the Center for Structural Policy Research has positioned him as a key expert on industrial policy and economic adaptation in Russia.
Kuzyk is actively involved in the Center for Structural Policy Research, where he leads and participates in numerous research projects examining the impact of sanctions on Russian industry, the effectiveness of government support measures, and the digital transformation of Russian companies. He frequently collaborates with other leading economists at HSE, including Yu. V. Simachev, A. A. Fedyunina, and N. A. Gorodny, among others.
