Yunqian Song is a Research Scholar at the Australian Centre for Water and Environmental Biotechnology, University of Queensland, actively engaged in the project "Production of C1-C2 liquid chemicals from waste streams containing carbon dioxide" (January 2022 - December 2025).
Her research spans Biochemical Engineering, Waste Treatment, Carbon Capture and Utilization, Sustainable Chemical Production, and Environmental Biotechnology, with a focus on converting carbon dioxide-rich waste streams into valuable liquid chemicals through innovative biochemical processes. This work directly aligns with the Centre's strategic themes in Decarbonisation Technologies and Water Energy Carbon nexus, emphasizing circular economy principles for sustainable resource recovery.
Ms Song contributes to the Australian Research Council-funded project "Production of valuable chemicals from gaseous waste" (2022-2024) under the guidance of Associate Professor Shihu Hu, Dr Bernardino Virdis, and Dr Xueqin Zhang, forming a multidisciplinary advisory team bridging microbiology, chemical engineering, and environmental systems.
As an integral member of the Centre for Water and Environmental Biotechnology, she collaborates across research groups tackling Advanced Wastewater Treatment and Sustainable Agri-Industry challenges, leveraging institutional facilities for gaseous waste valorization and contributing to Queensland's environmental innovation ecosystem.
