Xi Lu serves as a Research Scholar at the Australian Centre for Water and Environmental Biotechnology, The University of Queensland, working on the project "Revolutionising sludge management, turning costly waste into a safe product" (January 2022–December 2025) funded by Queensland Urban Utilities (2021–2024). He operates under the supervision of Dr Zhiyao Wang and Associate Professor Shihu Hu within the Centre's research framework.
His research concentrates on transforming municipal organic solids into safe reusable products through advanced wastewater treatment processes. This work intersects with critical environmental engineering domains including sludge valorisation, resource recovery from waste streams, and sustainable urban water systems. His focus aligns with the Centre's core research themes in Municipal Organic Solids and Advanced Wastewater Treatment.
