Dr. Yun Yu is a Senior Lecturer at Curtin University's School of Minerals, Energy and Chemical Engineering, within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Their research focuses on thermochemical processing of biomass, catalytic conversion of bioresources, pyrolysis mechanisms, and waste valorization. Yu has extensive expertise in biofuel production, catalytic materials design, and environmental engineering applications.
Research interests include biomass pyrolysis kinetics, catalyst development for bio-oil upgrading, and characterization of reaction intermediates. Notable contributions involve studies on phosphorus-doped cobalt sulfide catalysts, biochar-catalyzed reactions, and Zn quantification in waste tyre chars. Yu also explores corrosion-resistant coatings for waste incineration systems and solar gasification of biomass.
Publications span topics like levoglucosan decomposition, anhydro-sugar formation, and mechanistic insights into 5-HMF production. Their work often integrates experimental and modeling approaches to advance sustainable energy solutions. Yu collaborates internationally on bioenergy supply chains and has contributed to symposium proceedings on coal and biomass utilization technologies.
Currently based at Curtin Perth, Yu's lab focuses on interdisciplinary approaches to biomass conversion, with over 100 peer-reviewed articles since 2005. Research themes include catalysis, reaction engineering, and materials characterization for renewable energy systems.
