Professor Yuka Ishikawa serves in the Department of Fundamental Study within Nagoya University's Graduate School of Engineering, specializing in engineering English education and academic discourse analysis. Her research bridges applied linguistics and engineering education through corpus-based investigations of writing patterns.
Her research focuses on metadiscourse analysis in engineering research abstracts, gender representation in language textbooks, and development of English learning tools for Japanese engineering students. Key projects include the EJET system for thesis English conversion and J-ENG2 vocabulary learning platform.
Recent publications (2021-2024) reveal consistent investigation of disciplinary variation in engineering writing, cultural differences in self-mention patterns, and gender representation in educational materials. Her work demonstrates strong interdisciplinary connections between linguistics, gender studies, and engineering education.
- Japan Society of English Language Education Award (2008)
Professor Ishikawa has secured multiple Japanese government research grants including KAKENHI projects on engineering English vocabulary systems (2016-2019) and gender representation in textbooks (2016-2020). She serves as Principal Investigator for the 2023-2026 project on authorial presence markers in academic texts (Grant 23K00673).
She actively contributes to academic communities through leadership roles in the Japan Association of College English Teachers (Chubu Chapter President 2019-2021) and the Japanese Society for Stylistics (Board Member).
