Dr. Yuji Nagai is a Professor and Senior Researcher at Waseda University's Environmental Research Institute, Faculty of Science and Engineering, with additional appointment as Visiting Professor at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. His career at Waseda spans over 15 years, progressing from Adjunct Researcher (2007-2010) to Councilor (2010-2014), Researcher (2014-2015), Associate Professor (2015-2022), and currently Professor (2022-present).
Dr. Nagai earned his Doctor of Arts in Social Sciences from Waseda University in 2012, following completion of doctoral studies in the Graduate School of Global Information and Telecommunication Studies (2001-2004), a Master's in the Graduate School of Science and Engineering (1994-1996), and undergraduate studies in the School of Science and Engineering (1990-1994).
His research focuses on practical applications of environmental engineering and program management, particularly in rural environmental planning, regional resource circulation systems, local ecological monetary systems, and biomass utilization for decarbonization. Nagai has pioneered the application of Program and Project Management (P2M) methodologies to environmental challenges, with emphasis on stakeholder engagement, consensus building, and multi-sectoral collaboration. His work bridges theoretical frameworks with practical implementation in Japanese municipalities.
