Yuji Gonoi

Yuji Gonoi serves as Assistant Professor at Waseda University's School of Creative Science and Engineering within the Department of Resources and Environmental Engineering since April 2024, focusing on earth resource engineering and human geosciences through field studies and laboratory analysis.

His academic foundation includes:

Gonoi's research centers on resource geology with specialization in epithermal gold systems. He investigates hydrothermal alteration processes, clay mineral transformations, and exploration techniques for shallow hydrothermal gold-silver deposits through integrated mineralogical, geochemical, and isotopic approaches. His work emphasizes practical applications for mineral exploration in mature mining districts.

His 2022 publication demonstrates how chlorite-epidote/prehnite assemblages serve as high-temperature indicators in the Hishikari gold mine, providing critical exploration vectors for blind veins. This research establishes connections between alteration mineralogy, fluid chemistry, and gold deposition zones.

Scientific recognition includes:

• Excellent Poster Award, Geological Society of Japan (2015) for research on fault breccia self-healing properties

Current research is supported by competitive grants from the Japan Mining Industry Association (2025-2028) and JSPS (2024-2026) focusing on shallow hydrothermal systems and deep alteration zoning. He actively collaborates with Geological Survey of Japan (AIST) researchers on Kyushu gold deposits.
