Dr Yuen Ki Cheong is a Researcher at the University of Hertfordshire's Department of Engineering and Technology, affiliated with the School of Physics, Engineering and Computer Science. She joined the institution in 2015 and holds a PhD from Queen Mary University of London (2008) and Chartered Chemist status from the Royal Society of Chemistry (2011). Her research focuses on antimicrobial nanomaterials, biomedical engineering, and pharmaceutical sciences, with particular expertise in Trisphosphonate compounds and analytical spectroscopy (e.g., NMR).
Her work integrates cross-disciplinary projects involving nanoparticle synthesis, antimicrobial efficacy testing (SEM/TEM, ICP, biological assays), and applications in healthcare. Notable projects include the AMNP initiative (2016–2019), developing antimicrobial filters for hospital systems. Teaching specialisms include polymer chemistry, standards compliance, and soft tissue engineering.
Key achievements include pioneering Trisphosphonate research (2014–2017) demonstrating neuro- and osteo-protective properties, and recent contributions to hydrogen peroxide vapor disinfection (2024) and 3D-printed biomedical devices (2024). Over 30 peer-reviewed publications span nanotechnology, virology, and materials science.
