Guogang Ren

Guogang Ren is a Reader in Nanomaterials at the University of Hertfordshire, affiliated with the Department of Engineering and Technology and the School of Physics, Engineering & Computer Science. His research focuses on antiviral and antimicrobial nanoparticles for biomedical applications, composites, sustainability, and nuclear waste management. He holds a PhD from Queen Mary University of London (2000) and has prior experience as a Senior Research Fellow there.

His work is supported by major funders including EPSRC, Royal Society, and UKRI KTN. Key projects include antimicrobial alternatives for healthcare, aviation fuel enhancement, and ceramic systems for high-temperature applications. Collaborative efforts involve structural health monitoring of composites and low-cost fire-resistant materials.

Research interests span nanomaterial synthesis, antimicrobial therapeutics, and environmental applications. Notable contributions include copper oxide nanoparticle characterization (2009), coronavirus surface interaction studies (2021), and neuroprotective nanoparticle therapies (2020). His work bridges material science with biomedical and environmental engineering solutions.
