Dr. Yueming Li is a Research Professor and Lab Head at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC), leading the Yueming Li Lab within the Sloan Kettering Institute and the Chemical Biology Program. He holds a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley (1992), an MS from the Chinese Academy of Sciences (1984), and a BS from Shanxi Agriculture University (1982).
His research focuses on regulated intramembrane proteolysis (RIP), particularly the roles of γ-secretase and Rhomboid proteases in cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. Key projects include developing γ-secretase modulators for therapeutic applications, studying the non-transcriptional role of HIF-1α in cancer progression, and investigating autophagy modulators for neurodegenerative diseases. His lab employs molecular biology, proteomics, and chemical biology approaches, including the photophore walking technique to study γ-secretase conformational changes.
Notable achievements include the MetLife Foundation Award for Alzheimer’s research and contributions to understanding γ-secretase’s role in APP processing and Notch signaling. Dr. Li collaborates with institutions like the BrightFocus Foundation and Cure Alzheimer’s Fund.
His lab hosts multiple graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, with open positions in cancer and neuroscience research. The lab’s work bridges basic science and translational medicine, aiming to advance therapies for devastating diseases.
