Yuan Xu

Yuan (Shawn) Xu is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Oncology, Community Health Science, and Surgery at the University of Calgary's Cumming School of Medicine. He is affiliated with the Centre for Health Informatics and holds a postdoctoral fellowship in the CIHR Health System Impact Program. His research focuses on leveraging multidimensional health data (e.g., electronic and administrative data) to improve health service outcomes and generate real-world evidence for medical decision-making in cancer care.

Research interests emphasize algorithm development for disease recurrence detection, population-based cancer studies, healthcare access disparities, and policy impacts of healthcare infrastructure expansion. His work bridges epidemiology, health informatics, and oncology to address practical challenges in cancer care delivery.

Publications span 2018–2019, focusing on breast cancer treatment patterns, biliary cancer outcomes, and healthcare access dynamics. His interdisciplinary approach integrates geographic, administrative, and clinical data to inform both system-level and point-of-care decisions.
