Dr. Yu Yao is a Lecturer in Embedded Systems at the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics, University of Plymouth. His research focuses on 5G/6G, antennas, metasurfaces, and wireless power transfer. He leads projects totaling £1.1 million, collaborating with industry partners to advance transparent antenna design, wireless power systems, and indoor communication networks. His work includes patents and key publications, notably a 2023 Top Hot Paper recognized by IEEE.
Education: PhD from University of Sheffield; prior roles include research fellow and lecturer at the University of Sussex.
Research interests emphasize practical applications of advanced antenna technologies in wearable devices, automotive systems, and indoor environments. His recent articles explore holographic metasurfaces for wireless power transfer in EVs, transparent antennas for health monitoring (WBAN), and UWB MIMO systems using ITO films.
