Yu Shan

Yu Shan serves as an Assistant Professor of Finance at Syracuse University's Whitman School, where he joined the tenure-track faculty in fall 2022. He developed and launched the school's first dedicated fintech course in spring 2023, addressing the rapidly growing intersection of finance, technology, and entrepreneurship.

His academic credentials include:

• Ph.D. in Finance from Baruch College
• Master’s degree in Financial Engineering from the University of Southern California
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Economics from Central University of Finance and Economics

Shan's research examines how disruptive fintech innovations are transforming traditional financial services, with emphasis on banking models, consumer finance, and the shifting dominance from financial institutions to technology companies in driving financial innovation. His work highlights Silicon Valley's expanding influence on financial product development and service delivery.

Prior to Syracuse, he taught finance courses at Concordia University in Montreal for three years while conducting research in his core interest areas. He actively seeks to connect academic training with industry practice through collaborations with alumni in the Orange network who work at the forefront of fintech innovation.
