Dr. Yu Luo is an Associate Professor at the University of Saskatchewan in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology & Immunology. His research focuses on structural and functional studies of proteins involved in DNA repair and bacterial cell wall biosynthesis, particularly in Gram-positive organisms.
- B.Sc. (1987), Peking University
- M.Sc. (1990), Peking University
- Ph.D. (1993), Peking University
Dr. Luo's work employs crystallography, mass spectrometry, and biochemical assays to explore protein-ligand interactions, enzymatic mechanisms, and structural adaptations in pathogens. Recent studies examine lipidome modifications under nutrient stress and RecA inhibitors for antibiotic resistance reversal.
Publications span structural biology of recombinases (RAD51/RadA), DltA ligase mechanisms in teichoic acid biosynthesis, and lipidomic adaptations in Staphylococcus and Bacillus species. Collaborative efforts include developing phthalocyanine-based RecA inhibitors and characterizing membrane phospholipid modifications.
