Yu Cai is a Professor of Applied Computing and Associate Dean in the College of Computing at Michigan Technological University. He holds affiliations with the Department of Computational Science and Engineering. His roles include Associate Director of the Institute of Computing and Cybersystems (ICC) and Director of the Computing Education Center at ICC. He advises the RedTeam and Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA) student organizations.
Dr. Cai's research focuses on cybersecurity, computer networks, machine learning, and computing education. His work is supported by over $5M in external grants from agencies such as the National Science Foundation (NSF), National Security Agency (NSA), and the State of Michigan. He actively consults for companies including IBM and Ford, emphasizing practical societal impact through research.
