Dr Youngha Cho is a Reader at the School of the Built Environment, Oxford Brookes University, specializing in housing policy, urban planning, and ageing and health research. She leads the Healthy Ageing and Care Research, Innovation and Knowledge Exchange (RIKE) Network and collaborates internationally with institutions in Japan, South Korea, and Sub-Saharan Africa. Her work bridges academic research and practical policy, focusing on housing affordability, mortgage markets, and social care integration. Dr. Cho has secured grants totaling over £150,000, including ESRC-funded projects exploring UK-South Korea ageing-in-place research and pandemic impacts on integrated care systems. She actively contributes to academic boards, including the Journal of Housing Studies and the Asian Pacific Network for Housing Research (APNHR).
Her teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate real estate modules, emphasizing practical skills through case studies and industry speakers. Notable students include Charlie Fisher (2015 PhD, Urban Affordable Housing) and Alice Walker (2020 PhD, Older Adults’ Housing Choices). She has advised 15+ PhD students and maintains ties with organizations like AGE UK and the International Longevity Centre to translate research into actionable policies.
