Professor Feinberg's research centers on the analysis of information in strategic decision making, with a particular focus on modeling games with unawareness. His work explores how decision makers reason about the extent to which others may have limited perception of economic interactions. He has made significant contributions to understanding costly decision making, reasoning about unawareness, dynamic interactive decisions, and reasoning about high order uncertainties. His theoretical frameworks have practical applications in areas such as expert testing, bargaining delays, and strategic communication, revealing how information structures fundamentally shape strategic behavior in economic contexts.
Feinberg's publications demonstrate a consistent trajectory from foundational work on subjective reasoning in games toward increasingly sophisticated models incorporating unawareness and higher-order uncertainties. The recurring theme across his work is how belief systems and information structures influence strategic interactions, with applications spanning economic theory, organizational behavior, and decision science.
His notable honors include:
- Robert and Marilyn Jaedicke Faculty Fellow (2022-23)
- Distinguished Teaching Award, MBA, Stanford GSB (2003)
As an educator, Professor Feinberg has taught courses on entrepreneurship, microeconomic theory, and product management. He has served as an associate editor of the Journal of Economic Theory and is a referee for major microeconomics journals. His consulting work spans hi-tech, media, and healthcare industries, addressing topics such as pricing strategies, the sub-prime crisis, organizational decision power allocation, and strategic interactions, bringing theoretical insights to practical business challenges.
Professor Feinberg leads several executive education programs through Stanford Ignite, focusing on innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital transformation. His work with the Action Learning Program pairs students with external organizations to solve real-world business problems, emphasizing experiential learning in management education and bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application.
