Yoran Gerritsma is a researcher affiliated with the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Groningen, working within the Groningen Institute for Evolutionary Life Sciences. He holds a PhD and specializes in developmental plasticity, early-life adversity effects, and behavioral ecology. His research integrates field studies, experimental approaches, and quantitative analyses to explore how environmental challenges shape animal behavior and physiology.
Education:
- Bachelor of Science (2011–2015) with a double major in Behavior & Neurosciences and Ecology & Evolution
- Master of Science (2015–2017) with projects at the University of Groningen (zebra finch foraging) and Universität Bern (rat social behavior)
Research Interests:
- Developmental plasticity of personality in zebra finches
- Long-term effects of early-life adversity on behavior and immunity
- Social network dynamics in stressed populations
- Collaborative work on COPD/asthma management in clinical settings
Grants & Funding:
- Hendrik Muller Grant
- F. van Schurman Leen Grant
- Marco Polo Grant
- Groninger Universiteits Fonds (GUF)
- Swiss European Mobility Program (SEMP)
Labs/Teams: Active member of the Verhulst Lab, focusing on evolutionary biology of aging and behavioral ecology.
