Yongxiu Chen is a Research Fellow at the Department of Engineering Science, School of Engineering, University of Oxford. His research focuses on battery safety and degradation, particularly investigating nucleation and propagation of failure in Li-ion batteries and the interplay between degradation and safety.
- PhD, Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences (2019)
His work spans energy storage technologies in lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries, utilizing thermal mapping, X-ray characterization, and computational modeling (COMSOL, MATLAB) to address dendrite inhibition, electrolyte modification, electrode/material design, and catalyst development.
Current research includes the 'Safebatt' project funded by the Faraday Institution, conducted within the ZERO Institute and Materials Engineering groups. He previously worked in the Energy Materials Group at the University of Birmingham (2019-2024) on experimental parameterization for battery physical models.
