Yongchan Kwon

Yongchan Kwon is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at Louisiana State University's College of Engineering. He leads the Kwon Laboratory focused on Cell-Free Synthetic Biology. His research explores synthetic biology applications, cell-free systems development, and orthogonal translation mechanisms for biomedical and biotechnological innovations.

His educational background includes a Ph.D. (2012) and B.S. (2005) from Chungnam National University in Korea. Current teaching responsibilities include BE4290 Senior Engineering Design (Fall), BE4338 Synthetic Biology (Fall), and BE4334 Industrial Molecular Biotechnology (Spring).

Research interests center on synthetic biology platforms, cell-free expression systems, and biosensor development for medical diagnostics and therapeutic protein production. His work advances portable healthcare technologies and engineered biological systems.
