Professor Kirill Alexandrov holds the position of CSIRO-QUT Inaugural Professor of Synthetic Biology at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), within the Faculty of Science’s School of Biology & Environmental Science. His academic career includes roles at the Max-Planck Institute and the University of Queensland, where he was an Australian Research Council Future Fellow. He co-founded JenaBioscience GmbH and Molecular Warehouse Ltd, advancing biotechnology and synthetic biology.
Education: MSc in Invertebrate Zoology (Leningrad State University, 1989), PhD in Cell Biology (EMBL Heidelberg, 1995). Research focuses on protein engineering, biosensors, and diagnostics, with emphasis on synthetic biology applications such as artificial sensing systems and bioelectronic interfaces. His work bridges biological and electronic systems, addressing challenges in diagnostics and industrial biotechnology.
Publications highlight developments in protein logic gates, lanthanide-controlled switches, and SARS-CoV-2 protein interactions. His research integrates interdisciplinary approaches, including cell-free systems and mRNA display technologies. Active in industry-academia collaborations, his contributions span from foundational studies to applied biotechnologies.
