Yong Zhou is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Oslo's Faculty of Law and Research Partner at the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights, with additional affiliations at the University of Cambridge. He holds four law degrees including a PhD from the University of Oslo and an LLM from the University of Nottingham. His research focuses on indigenous rights, environmental law, and sustainable development governance across Nordic and Chinese contexts.
Research interests span:
- Implementation mechanisms for linguistic minority protections
- Anthropological studies of legal systems
- Energy law frameworks in cross-cultural contexts
Publications demonstrate consistent focus on legal empowerment of indigenous communities, with recent work examining hydropower sustainability and biocultural diversity governance. Awarded the British FCO Chevening Scholarship and CASS Research Excellence Award for scholarly contributions.
Leads international collaborations including the China-Norwegian Law Program and serves as IUCN World Commission expert on protected areas.
