Prof Yong-Ling Ruan is an Honorary Group Leader in the Division of Plant Sciences at The Australian National University. His research focuses on understanding carbon nutrient allocation, sugar metabolism, and signaling to enhance crop yield and resilience. He leads studies on plant developmental processes, stress responses, and molecular networks governing resource distribution during evolution and domestication.
Education: Holds BS, MS, and PhD qualifications (exact institutions unspecified). Research interests include carbon allocation for eco-health, sugar signaling in growth/stress responses, and molecular networks in resource partitioning. Notable contributions include the 'Ready-Set-Grow' model for seed/fruit set and discoveries in sugar transport/transporter roles in stress tolerance.
Key achievements: Published in top journals (Plant Cell, Nature Plants, Molecular Plant), with an h-index of 56 (Google Scholar). Awards include the Peter Goldacre Medal (ASPS) and NSFC Distinguished Young Scientist Award. Served on ARC College of Experts and editorial boards, including Molecular Plant and The Plant Cell.
Grants/Projects: Directed the Australian-China Research Centre for Crop Improvement (2018-2021). Current project: Improving plant reproductive success under heat stress (2018-2024). Focus areas include cell wall invertase roles, heat stress transcriptional regulation, and drought resistance mechanisms.
Labs/Teams: Collaborates globally on carbon partitioning, sugar transporters, and stress biology. Active in editorial roles and international research networks.
