Yonder Gillihan is an Associate Professor in the Theology Department at Boston College, part of the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on the Dead Sea Scrolls, early Christian origins, and Jewish sectarian movements in the Second Temple period. He applies social-scientific methods to analyze ancient communities' relationships with imperial authorities.
Education: A.B., M.A. (Ball State University); M.A., Ph.D. (University of Chicago).
Key research areas include apocalypticism, Pauline studies, and the application of modern sociological frameworks to ancient religious texts. His publications address topics like Hasmonean propaganda, civic ideology in the Rule Scrolls, and legal terminology in Qumran penal codes. Office hours are Monday/Wednesday 9-11 AM.
