Yomi Braester serves as Professor and the Byron W. and Alice L. Lockwood Professor in the Humanities at the University of Washington, where his work centers on literary and visual practices in modern China and Taiwan, with emphasis on architecture, advertisement, screen media, and stage arts.

Braester's research critically examines how texts and images construct perceptions of space and history, with current projects analyzing new media in urban environments and cinephilia in the People's Republic of China. His interdisciplinary approach integrates film studies, visual culture, and critical theory to explore cultural production in East Asian contexts.
He holds significant leadership roles as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Chinese Cinemas and previously founded the University of Washington Summer Program in Chinese Film History and Criticism at the Beijing Film Academy (2005-2011). He also served as president of the Association for Chinese and Comparative Literature, demonstrating sustained influence in the field.
