معرفی
Dr. Yolanda Hedberg is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Western Ontario, where she holds a Canada Research Chair (Tier 2) in Corrosion Science. She directs the Hedberg Lab (MSA 0240) and is affiliated with Surface Science Western. Her research focuses on predicting corrosion and surface reactions in biological environments to address health risks, environmental impacts, and material failures.
Education:
- M.Sc., Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany
- Ph.D., KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden
- Postdoc, Karolinska Institute, Sweden
- Docent (habilitation), KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden
Research Interests: Dr. Hedberg investigates dynamic interactions between protein-rich biological environments and materials including metallic implants, nanoparticles, and industrial products. Her work combines spectroscopy, microscopy, and electrochemistry to study corrosion mechanisms, metal ion release, nanoparticle reactivity, and allergic sensitization. Applications range from biomedical device safety to environmental hazard assessment.
Publications: Recent research emphasizes corrosion behavior of biomedical alloys (titanium, cobalt-chromium) fabricated via additive manufacturing, protein-metal interactions, nanoparticle toxicity, and amino acid effects on corrosion. Work consistently integrates materials science with biological implications.
