Yogatheesan Varatharajah

Yogatheesan Varatharajah is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Bioengineering and holds a courtesy appointment in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He is affiliated with the Mayo Clinic as a Visiting Scientist and the Center for AI Innovations at NCSA. His research focuses on machine learning applications in EEG analysis, neural engineering, and clinical decision support, with a particular emphasis on epilepsy and neurological disorders. Dr. Varatharajah earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from UIUC, and a B.E. in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.

Research Interests: His work integrates domain-guided machine learning, big data analytics, and statistical learning to address clinical challenges. Collaborations with Mayo Clinic enable translational research in epilepsy surgery outcomes and neurological disease prediction.
