Yo Tomita is a Professor in the School of Arts, English and Languages at Queen's University Belfast, specializing in Musicology & Composition. He holds a Senior Fellowship at Bach-Archiv Leipzig and has served as the Gerhard Herz Visiting Bach Professor at the University of Louisville. His work focuses on J.S. Bach's manuscript sources, particularly the Well-Tempered Clavier II, and he has contributed to the Bach Bibliography and musicological font projects. Tomita earned his PhD in musicology after studying piano at Musashino Academia Musicae (Tokyo) and completing an MMus at Leeds University.
He has organized major events like the 14th International Conference on Baroque Music (2010) and the 'Understanding Bach’s B-minor Mass' symposium (2007). His research explores Bach's compositional practices, reception history, and editorial methodologies. Recent work includes studies on Bach's flute sonatas and collaborations with scholars like M. Rebmann. Tomita serves on editorial boards for journals like Understanding Bach and actively engages in international musicological networks.
