Dr. Yizhi Meng is an Associate Professor of Practice in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Stony Brook University (SBU), where she teaches courses in chemical and molecular engineering, including unit operations, fluid mechanics, and biomaterials. Prior to this role, she held positions as Assistant Professor of Practice (2023-2024) and Lecturer (2019-2023) at SBU. She earned her Ph.D. in Food Engineering from Cornell University (2003), followed by postdoctoral research at Cornell University’s Nanobiotechnology Center and SBU’s Biomedical Engineering department.
Her research focuses on biomaterials, particularly nature-inspired bioactive materials for biomedical applications, and high-resolution microscopy techniques to study pathogenic cell motility. Notable awards include the NIH-REACH Proof-of-Concept Award (2016) and multiple SUNY Network of Excellence Awards (2014–2015). Her work spans interdisciplinary areas such as nanomaterials for environmental remediation, targeted drug delivery systems, and osteoblast biomineralization.
Dr. Meng’s publications highlight advancements in photocatalytic dye degradation, chitosan-based drug delivery systems, and anti-biofouling polymer surfaces. Her research bridges materials science with biomedical and environmental applications, emphasizing practical solutions for healthcare and sustainability challenges.
