Yixin Chen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Sam Houston State University's College of Humanities & Social Sciences. She joined SHSU in Fall 2014 and holds a PhD in Communication from the University at Buffalo (SUNY) and an MA from the University of Texas at El Paso.
Research Interests: Her work focuses on how interpersonal and mediated communication processes influence cognition, emotion, and health decision-making. Key areas include social support and well-being, health literacy, risk perception, and health behaviors such as binge drinking and smoking cessation.
Publications: Her research spans topics from vaccination behavior to environmental risk perception, often applying the Health Belief Model and examining media influences. Articles have appeared in journals like American Journal of Health Promotion, Health Communication, and International Journal of Communication.
