Dr. Yiwey Shieh is an Assistant Professor in Population Health Sciences and Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College, with dual appointments in Epidemiology and General Internal Medicine. He holds the Nanette Laitman Clinical Scholar title and serves as an Assistant Attending Physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. His research focuses on advancing personalized cancer screening through polygenic risk modeling, particularly in breast cancer. Key affiliations include the Sandra and Edward Meyer Cancer Center and Weill Cornell Internal Medicine Associates.
Education: A.B. in Biology from Harvard College (2006), M.D. from UCSF School of Medicine (2012), and M.A.S. in Clinical Research from UCSF (2017). He completed residency at the University of Pennsylvania and a research fellowship at UCSF.
Research interests center on integrating genetic variants and clinical data to improve risk prediction and clinical decision-making. Recent work includes cost analyses of screening guidelines, validation studies of risk tools (e.g., WISDOM trial), and development of polygenic scores for cancer aggressiveness. His studies often address disparities in Latin American populations and explore chemoprevention strategies.
Funding includes NIH grants for pragmatic trials and risk model validation. Active collaborations involve multi-institutional trials like the WISDOM study, which tests personalized screening approaches. Future directions emphasize refining risk stratification and translational applications of genomic data.
