Yitka Graham is a Professor of Health Services Research and Head of the Helen McArdle Nursing and Care Research Institute at the University of Sunderland. She leads applied health research focusing on reducing health inequalities, workforce development in healthcare, and optimizing patient care in NHS and community settings. Her roles include Honorary Specialty Lead for Health Services Research at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust and Visiting Professorships at universities in Mexico and Argentina.
Her research explores bariatric surgical care, military veteran health, social prescribing, and challenges to obesity stigma. She collaborates internationally on initiatives like the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO) guidelines. Graham supervises numerous PhD students and advises on interdisciplinary projects addressing healthcare disparities and innovative practices.
Key projects include long-term bariatric patient follow-up, veteran wellbeing through arts-based practices, and evaluating social prescribing programs. She emphasizes translating research into policy and practice to enhance healthcare equity and effectiveness.
