Yinghong Sheng is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry & Physics at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). He holds a Ph.D. from Nanjing University (China) and has postdoctoral training at Jackson State University, Emory University, and visiting scholarships at The Hong Kong University of Science & Technology. His research focuses on computational chemistry, molecular dynamics, and interdisciplinary applications in materials, biochemistry, and environmental science.
Sheng's teaching includes General Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Computational Modeling courses. He has secured grants totaling over $20M, including the Center for Chemical Evolution (NSF/NASA) and FGCU Research Venture Fund. Notable awards include the FGCU Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award (2008–2009).
His research interests span reaction mechanisms, organometallic chemistry, material properties, and nitric oxide synthase. Recent work includes HS⁻ sensing mechanisms, ionic liquid design for gene delivery, and electron transfer in biomolecules. Over 40 peer-reviewed publications and active collaborations highlight his contributions to computational and experimental chemistry.
Sheng leads FGCU's computational modeling initiatives, including HPC server acquisitions and CARC grant computing resources. His lab bridges theory and experiment, emphasizing student training in advanced computational methods.
