Dr. Yin-Phan Tsang is an Assistant Professor of Natural Resources and Environmental Management at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. She leads the Tsang Stream Lab and is affiliated with the Center for Systems Integration and Sustainability.
Dr. Tsang's research focuses on ecological modeling, particularly the intersection of hydrology and ecosystems. Her work investigates surface and subsurface water processes and their implications in fluvial ecosystems. She employs interdisciplinary approaches including field observation, hydrological modeling, statistical analysis, and landscape approaches to advance understanding of stream ecosystems and address habitat degradation under anthropogenic and climate change pressures.
Her publication in the Journal for Nature Conservation (2019) on identifying high-value conservation areas demonstrates her focus on practical applications of ecological research. Her work integrates ecological, hydrological, and spatial data to inform sustainable water resource management and aquatic ecosystem preservation.
Dr. Tsang mentors students in environmental management and leads the Tsang Stream Lab, which actively seeks funding to support freshwater ecosystem research. The lab emphasizes community engagement and outreach about the importance of streams and freshwater resources.
