Yijing Yang is a Doctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Philosophy, Classics, History of Art and Ideas within the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Oslo. She commenced her position in September 2023 and is currently engaged in her doctoral research on Aristotelian philosophy.
Her academic background includes a Master of Philosophy in Ancient Greek Philosophy from Sichuan University, China.
Yang's primary research interests lie in Ancient Greek Philosophy, focusing on Aristotle and Theophrastus. She is reconstructing the Aristotelian perspective on life, particularly the nutritive soul as the fundamental principle of life for plants and its connection to the perceptual soul in animals. Additionally, she explores epistemology, ontology, and French philosophy, with a special interest in Merleau-Ponty, Deleuze, and Bergson.
Her recent publications consist of scholarly translations of classical philosophical works into Chinese, including Theophrastus' "De Sensu", O'Meara's introduction to Plotinus, and Frede's "The Rationalism of Aristotle". These translations facilitate the study of ancient philosophy in Chinese-speaking academic circles.
Her notable awards include:
- Harvard Hoopes Prize (2018) for a filmmaking project
- Chinese National Scholarship (2020-2021) from Sichuan University
Yang is an active member of The Society for Ancient Philosophy at the University of Oslo, contributing to collaborative research and academic discussions in the field of ancient philosophy.
