Yifei Zhu

Yifei Zhu is a Research Fellow at the Institute for Security and Development Policy (ISDP) in Stockholm. They hold a PhD in Political Science from the Graduate School of East Asian Studies (GEAS), Freie Universität Berlin, awarded in June 2022. Their research focuses on post-developmental state dynamics across the Taiwan Strait, analyzing Taiwan's liberal-oriented economic policies toward China between 1990 and 2016 through an institutionalist lens. The doctoral committee included Professors Sabrina Habich-Sobiegalla, Gunter Schubert, Tanja Börzel, and Tobias Berger.

Key research interests encompass geopolitical relations in East Asia, economic policy frameworks, and institutional transitions in transitioning economies. Zhu’s work bridges comparative politics and international political economy, with a focus on cross-strait relations and developmental state theory.
