Yifat Shaik is an Assistant Professor in Computational Arts at York University, focusing on game design and interactive media. Her work explores autobiographical narratives, systems-based mechanics, and the intersection of games with social activism and political themes. She holds a Master of Design from OCAD University (2014).

Her research investigates how gameplay mechanics can subvert traditional video game systems to critique militarization, gentrification, and societal structures. Notable projects include Real Army Simulator (anti-militarization), The Mattress of St. Dundas (gentrification critique), and experimental engine-based works like The Engine is the Message. Her work has been showcased at events such as MIGS (Keynote 2018), Indiecade, and Qgcon, with media coverage in Boing Boing and Torontoist.
Shaik is co-director of Dames Making Games Toronto and head organizer of Different Games Toronto conference (2017). She has taught at OCAD University, Sheridan College, and York University since 2016.
