Yi Wang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Horticulture at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her research focuses on sustainable vegetable production and precision agriculture, aiming to enhance resource efficiency and climate resilience in Wisconsin's vegetable cropping systems. She develops cloud-based machine learning tools using remote sensing data to predict crop yield and optimize management practices. Her work encompasses potatoes, snap beans, sweet corn, peas, and dry edible beans.
- Education: B.S. in Biological Science from Nanjing Agricultural University (China), Ph.D. in Potato Physiology from UW-Madison
- Previous Position: Assistant Professor at the Kimberly Research and Extension Center, University of Idaho
Research interests include crop variety selection, irrigation optimization, nitrogen management, and storage strategies. She leads applied research collaborations with growers and processors to improve sustainability. Teaching includes the annual Hort370 course.
Her articles span advancements in 2D materials, nonlinear optics, and quantum phenomena. Notable contributions include studies on topological semimetals, Berry curvature memory, and phase transitions in layered materials.
Lab affiliations include the UW Forage Research Extension and the Silage and Biofeedback Breeding Program. Her work bridges agronomy and precision tech to address climate challenges in vegetable farming.
