Yi Ni Toh is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Schepens Eye Research Institute, affiliated with Harvard Medical School, where she collaborates with Alex Bowers since January 2024. Her work characterizes how visual impairments impact daily activities like driving and develops rehabilitation interventions to address functional deficits.
Her academic foundation includes:
- Ph.D. in Cognitive and Brain Sciences with a Computer Science minor from the University of Minnesota (December 2023), supervised by Vanessa Lee.
Dr. Toh's research bridges cognitive psychology and vision science to decode attention lapses and memory errors while enhancing real-world visual function. She investigates psychological mechanisms underlying cognitive failures to design targeted interventions for critical moments, and concurrently examines visual impairment impacts on mobility and safety. Her dual focus integrates laboratory-based cognitive models with clinical rehabilitation strategies to improve independence for visually impaired populations.
She actively contributes to Alex Bowers' research team at Schepens, specializing in translational projects that connect neuroscience principles with practical vision rehabilitation applications.
