Yevgeny Berdichevsky is an Associate Professor in the Department of Bioengineering at Lehigh University, serving as Director of the Bioengineering Graduate Program. His research focuses on applying bioMEMS and microfluidic technology to neuroscience, particularly exploring information processing in brain organoids, high-throughput drug screening platforms, and neural modulation analysis. He joined Lehigh in 2012 after completing postdoctoral work at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital.
Berdichevsky holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of California, San Diego, and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley. His work bridges engineering and neuroscience, with significant contributions to organ-on-a-chip systems, epilepsy modeling, and neural network dynamics.
His research interests include brain organoid engineering, neuroelectronic interfaces, and neurotechnology for drug discovery. He has authored over 100 journal articles and holds U.S. patents in microfluidics and neural recording technologies. He is affiliated with IEEE, the Society for Neuroscience, and the American Epilepsy Society.
Berdichevsky’s research has advanced methods for in vitro epilepsy modeling, including antiepileptogenic compound screening and understanding post-traumatic epileptogenesis. His lab develops innovative tools like nanoporous gold electrodes and acoustofluidic systems for neural tissue analysis.
