Yenupini Joyce Adams is an Associate Professor of the Practice and Global Maternal Research Lead at the University of Notre Dame’s Eck Institute for Global Health, part of the Keough School of Global Affairs. She holds a PhD in Nursing Science from Michigan State University and a BSN from Calvin University. Her work focuses on maternal health disparities, particularly postpartum care access and maternal mortality reduction in vulnerable populations in the U.S. and Sub-Saharan Africa. Dr. Adams has designed scalable interventions, led multiple research projects as PI/Co-I, and conducted randomized controlled trials in Ghana. Her research emphasizes healthcare system improvements, cultural competency, and patient-centered care.

Research Interests: Her research addresses maternal mortality through interventions targeting postpartum care access, health literacy, and healthcare provider training. She uses mixed-methods approaches to assess cultural barriers, design context-appropriate tools, and evaluate care models. Key themes include midwifery competency, neonatal care protocols, and strategies to reduce postpartum depression among low-income women.
