Yen-Hwei Lin is a Professor and Department Chair of Linguistics, Languages, and Cultures (LiLaC) at Michigan State University (MSU). Effective June 2024, she serves as Interim Dean of MSU’s College of Arts & Letters. Her research focuses on phonological representations, feature theory, and Chinese phonology, with a book titled The Sounds of Chinese. She holds editorial roles for Lingua Sinica and Language and Linguistics.
Education: Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Texas at Austin.
Recent administrative milestones include her appointment as Department Chair (2020) and prior roles as Acting Interim Chair (2018–2020). She contributed to NEH-funded research through MSU’s Knowledge Commons and is affiliated with the College of Arts & Letters’ interdisciplinary initiatives.
Her work bridges theoretical and applied linguistics, emphasizing cross-linguistic phonological patterns and pedagogical innovations in language studies.
