Dr. Yemon Choi is a Senior Lecturer in Pure Mathematics at the School of Mathematical Sciences, Lancaster University. He has held this position since August 2022, having previously served as a Lecturer at the same institution from January 2014 to July 2022. His academic career includes a tenure-track Assistant Professor position at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada (2010-2014), and postdoctoral positions at Universite Laval and the University of Manitoba in Canada.
- Current Position: Senior Lecturer, Lancaster University (2022-present)
- Previous Positions: Lecturer, Lancaster University (2014-2022); Assistant Professor, University of Saskatchewan (2010-2014)
- Education: PhD in Pure Mathematics, Newcastle-upon-Tyne (2006); B.A. in Mathematics, Cambridge (2000)
Dr. Choi's research focuses on the interface between algebra and functional analysis. His primary interests include Banach and operator algebras, noncommutative harmonic analysis, and categorical and homological perspectives on functional analysis. He has extensively studied Fourier algebras of locally compact groups, combining harmonic analysis with representation theory. His work frequently employs the theory of operator spaces and completely bounded maps, which provide enriched versions of Banach spaces with matricial coefficients. He is also investigating algebras of convolution operators arising from group representations on Lp spaces, where many structural questions remain unresolved for p ≠ 2.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on rigidity results for Lp-operator algebras, amenability constants of Fourier algebras, and constructing various algebraic structures related to harmonic analysis. These works span multiple areas of functional analysis and operator algebras, showing consistent development of theoretical frameworks for understanding algebraic structures in functional analytic settings.
