Yasmmyn Salinas is an Assistant Professor Adjunct in the Department of Chronic Disease Epidemiology at the Yale School of Public Health (YSPH). She holds a BSc in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from Yale College (2010), an MPH in Chronic Disease Epidemiology from YSPH (2014), and a PhD in Public Health (Chronic Disease Epidemiology) from Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (2019). Her research focuses on genetic mechanisms underlying intergenerational obesity transmission and metabolic comorbidities, with emphasis on maternal genetic factors and early-life environmental interactions.
Dr. Salinas teaches Principles of Epidemiology II and Advanced Applied Analytic Methods in Epidemiology. She was honored with YSPH's 2021 Distinguished Teacher Award for her innovative pedagogy, including real-time student feedback via Poll Everywhere and personalized mentorship. Her work bridges genetic epidemiology with public health interventions, aiming to improve metabolic health outcomes across generations.
Research collaborations include projects with Andrew DeWan (genetic epidemiology) and Nicola Hawley (global child health surveillance). Her teaching philosophy emphasizes transparency and leveraging her dual perspective as both researcher and former student.
