Dr. Yasin Sunca is a Post-Doctoral Researcher at Bielefeld University’s Research Training Group (RTG) 2225 'World Politics' under DFG start-up funding. He holds a joint PhD in Political Science and Sociology from Bielefeld University (2017–2020) and a Master’s in Political Science from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris (2012–2013). His research focuses on the Kurdish political movement, particularly the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), analyzing the construction of transnational political spaces through Democratic Confederalism. This work challenges mainstream International Relations theories and explores agency in global, regional, and local transformations.
His research has been presented at numerous international conferences, including the World Congress for Middle Eastern Studies (Seville, 2018) and the University of Sussex (2019). He has organized workshops like 'Envisioning the Global' (2019) and 'Imagining Belonging in World Politics' (2018–2019). His publications include analyses of Rojava’s revolution and critiques of Eurocentrism in peace studies. Sunca’s current Start-Up Project explores 'Radical Peace: Historicizing Conflict and Decolonizing Peace-Formation in the Kurdish Political Space'.
