Oday Uraiqat is a Doctoral Researcher in the Research Training Group 'World Politics' (RTG 2225) at Bielefeld University since October 2020. His academic credentials include an MA in Political Science with a concentration in Political Sociology from Freie Universität Berlin (2019) and a BA in Political Science with a minor in History from Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (2015). Prior to his doctoral studies, he gained research experience as a Student Assistant at FU Berlin's SFB 700 'Governance in Areas of Limited Statehood' and at Bundeswehr University Munich's Chair of International Politics and Conflict Studies.
Dr. Uraiqat's research centers on liberation struggles within world society, investigating how inter-struggle relations function as a distinct driving force behind globalization. His dissertation constructs a historical narrative of world society through the lens of inter-struggle relations during the 'long 1960s' (from early 1950s to mid-1970s), employing and adapting Niklas Luhmann's world society theory. His work foregrounds marginalized perspectives in world history while highlighting the subaltern's agency in globalizing processes through face-to-face interactions, organizational structures, communication technologies, and mass inclusion mechanisms.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a consistent focus on the construction of global challenges and conflicts within world society frameworks. His research examines how issues become framed as global problems through processes of universalizing, bundling, upscaling, and creating urgency. This work critically investigates how global challenges discourse either reinforces or challenges dominant world political orders, including the capitalist market-based system and liberal international order, while facilitating the emergence of new actors and policy fields.
Dr. Uraiqat has made significant scholarly contributions through his co-edited 2024 Routledge volume 'Constructing Global Challenges in World Politics,' which provides a conceptual framework for understanding global challenge construction. He has actively participated in major international academic forums including the American Sociological Association annual meeting, International Sociological Association World Congress, and European Sociological Association conferences. Additionally, he has organized multiple workshops on global challenges in world politics, demonstrating leadership in facilitating academic dialogue on these critical issues.
