Prof. Dr. Yaser Hashem is an incoming faculty member at the University of Hamburg's Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences. He will join the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in 2025 as a Professor, leading his research laboratory. His appointment represents a strategic expansion of the department's research capabilities in biochemical and molecular life sciences.
Dr. Hashem's research focuses on fundamental biochemical processes at the molecular level, with particular emphasis on structural biology and molecular interactions. His upcoming laboratory will contribute to the department's existing research clusters including Biological Chemistry and Molecular Biology, complementing ongoing work in water nanoconfinement, biomolecular systems, and related interdisciplinary fields.
As a newly appointed professor, Dr. Hashem is currently establishing his research group at the University. The department anticipates his laboratory will actively participate in collaborative research initiatives including the Graduate School NANOHYBRID, ERC BioValCat project, and Collaborative Research Center 1615 'SMART Reactors', though specific research directions will be announced upon the completion of his laboratory website.
